We aimed to backpack two long hikes back-to-back, from the highlands of Iceland down to the coast. We hoped to complete a multi-day hike over four mountain passes, climb two 14,000-foot mountains, and camp on top of the highest sand dunes in North America. And along the way, soak our bodies in all the hot springs we could find.
